Long Wait Times Plague Medical Offices, but Not AHC

Its almost assumed among health care patients that the time they made their doctor’s appointment for isn’t anywhere near the time that they’ll actually be seen. Long wait times can be frustrating and stressful, causing people to take a large chunk out of their busy schedules. It can cause some to not want to see the doctor all together. However, Arrowhead Health Centers is changing that. Their commitment to see patients within 15 minutes of their scheduled appointment time has been very successful, leading to empty waiting room lobbies.

A Commitment to Shorter Wait Times By Putting People First

AZPBS recently featured an article raving about AHC’s approach to wait times: To prevent patients from waiting, the clinic created an “on-time promise” to get patients in to see their doctor within 15 minutes of their appointment time. “Anything you can do to make it easy for a consumer to go to the doctor’s office is going to result in better health care, and they’re going to be healthier people,” said Ken Levin, CEO of Arrowhead Health Centers. Other medical organizations such as Dignity Health also have made efforts to be more transparent with wait times. It encourages patients to book an appointment from home and stay there until the health professional is ready to see them. They send a text alert when the office is ready.
