Keep A Balanced Diet

Studies continue to show that a variety of nutrients help ease symptoms of OsteoArthritis. Foods that may help are ones that are high in vitamin C, while fish oils include omega-3 fatty acids and may also help relieve pain. The goal is to not focus on a single nutrient as a cure all, but on an overall healthy food diet. Simply following a balanced diet will get you all the nutrients you need. Make sure your menu includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, fish, nuts and healthy oils.

Sleep Well

Getting a good night of rest will help you cope with the pain and stress of OsteoArthritis. If you are having trouble sleeping, try going to bed at the same time every night. Move distractions like television or computers out of your bedroom. Another tip to get a good night of sleep is to try using pillows to take the pressure off joints. If you continue to have sleeping problems, contact your physician.

Keep Pain Under Control

When you are experiencing pain remember that over-the-counter medication can help ease OsteoArthritis pain. A common pain reliever is acetaminophen because it doesn’t upset the stomach. Taking more than the recommended amount will increase the chance of side effects, including liver problems. There are others such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen that can also help. Possible side effects of these include stomach irritation and bleeding. Make sure to read labels carefully to make sure you’re not overmedicating, and if you are planning on taking any pain reliever for more than 10 days, contact your doctor first.

A Positive Attitude Goes a Long Way

The way you think can have a huge impact on how you feel and how well you function. Each day, try to do something you enjoy. Spend time with friends or family, develop hobbies that you can do even with your OsteoArthritis. Focus on what you can do versus what you wish you could do or can no longer do.
